Defense Acquisition Council has approved proposals for the procurement of Wheeled Armoured Fighting Vehicles WhAP with Anti Tank Guided Missiles.
8×8 Wheeled Armoured Platform WhAP that are indigenously designed and developed by the Tata Advanced Systems Limited along with the Vehicles Research & Development Establishment will soon be integrated with NAG Anti tank missiles so that they can be used to neutralize armoured infantry vehicles and light tanks.
In April, the Indian Army received the first lot of Infantry Protected Vehicles based on WhAP from Tata Advanced Systems which was produced in the Pune facility and delivered the Army’s first lot of four wheeled armoured combat vehicles.
WhAP already has undergone stringent field trials in different terrains including high altitude areas and desert areas by the Indian Army. The Anti Tank WhAP variant will also be armed with Remote Controlled Weapon Station with thermal sights and external add on armour protection panels.
Proposal for development of light tank variant with 105mm gun is also under consideration mounted on the WhAP platform for operations in high altitude areas.
