The Indian Air Force has agreed to send SU-30MKI aircraft to the Royal Australian Air Force-hosted Exercise Pitch Black exercise, which will also include participation from the French Rafale, the German Typhoon, the Japanese F2, the Singaporean F15SG and F-16, the Indonesian F16A, and the US Air Force’s F-15C.
When India previously took part in Exercise Pitch Black 2018, the IAF delegation included 145 airmen from the Garud team, 04 Su-30 MKIs, 1 C-130, and 1 C-17. The goal of Exercise Pitch Black is to engage in controlled simulations of air combat exercises and to share best practises to improve operational capability.
An annual three-week multi-national large force employment exercise known as Exercise Pitch Black is predominantly performed at RAAF Bases Darwin and Tindal. Up to 15 countries from across the world will take part in the exercise this year, which will also feature RAAF Base Amberley.
