HAL backs the indigenous Medium Transport Aircraft Program

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited management is trying to draw support for the development of an indigenous Medium Transport aircraft Program in the country by having talks with many public and private sector players that could be part of the supply chain for yet to be the proposed program.

HAL is proposing the development of Medium Transporter that can haul a 20 tons payload and also be used for troop movement. Brazilian company Embraer already has been pushing its C-390 Millennium to fill the gap that was left after India walked out of the Indo Russian proposed Medium Transport Aircraft program due to differences in the choice of the engine.

The final configuration of the jets can be formalized only after IAF sends its official requirements, but Hall is only engaging with other companies to gauge the potential capabilities for such development.

HAL is unhappy that the proposed Regional Transport Aircraft proposed by the National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL) is yet to get official clearance from the government and now plans to make its offer for the development of Transporter and Civil variant based on it but it is not clear if Indian Air force is interested and will be ready to be on board.
